S.T.A.R.S. Theatre was founded in 2007 by Gailmarie Sprague and Francesca Lumetta after a discussion about Summer Stock. The two wanted to put on a production of a show because the town's summer program fell through. After weighing the options heavily, they decided on performing Les Miserables: School Edition and began recruiting their friends for the roles. Pulling tons of kids from the High School in addition to younger children for the young roles, they got to work immediately. Sponsored by the Township of Scotch Plains' Recreation Department, S.T.A.R.S. Theatre operates with the aide and guidance of DJ Salvante and Julie Buonaguro.
With the program growing every year, new staff is brought in to help facilitate the learning process for all members involved. The program is affordable for all those who audition and there are no cuts made. Roles are chosen specifically by audition, talent level and maturity level but we encourage all of our participants to audition for roles.
